GONZAGA AT SIXTY: A WORK IN PROGRESS
1972-73 senior Cup Team with Noel McCarthy
and his assistance and experise was much appreciated. Noel also acted as gamesmaster and
contributed greatly not just to the organisaion of rugby but to all sporing acivity in the school.
In recent imes we have seen an increased student paricipaion in the sport. This has
been possible because of the commitment of many staf coaches supported by past pupils.
The contribuion of recent past pupils and on occasion parents has been
invaluable and is much appreciated by the school
Great eforts have been made at under 13 & under 14 level to encourage
as many students as possible to paricipate and in this respect Fiona McCarthy,
Fr Joe Brennan, Paul Kieran, Eben Stewart, Howard Welch, David Murray and
David Keenahan have made valuable contribuions in ensuring that a very high
percentage of students have been introduced to the basics of the game. In
more recent seasons approximately ninety irst years have taken to the ields
in September and four teams have represented the school at both under 13
and under 14 levels on a regular basis. High paricipaion levels have proved the
basis for enjoyment and regular success in Under13 & 14 leagues.
