We talked a bit about how being at Gonzaga shaped my decision to get in to the ilm business. Above: a scene from Adam and Paul,
I guess one of the terriic things about the school is that it fostered an environment where Element Films
all sorts of endeavours other than sports and academia were part of the culture of the
school and were valued and nurtured.... this meant that one felt fully comfortable dabbling
in arts-related aciviies and in my case I very much enjoyed being part of the school plays
and musicals. I also remember enjoying English classes, which gave me an exposure to
appreciaing and understanding good wriing. This is very much part of my working life now
in assessing scripts as well as novels and plays that may make ilms or TV drama.
More generally the school engendered a conidence that allowed me believe that I
might have a career in ilm, which was and is a great passion of mine and which back in the
80’s was not exactly top of the list of possibiliies when it came to career opions. In short,
it gave me the conidence to follow my passion.
Once I let school I went to TCD where I joined players and then set up the Trinity Video
Company (a video producion society) with Lenny Abrahamson, with whom I went on to
make ADAM AND PAUL and GARAGE…
